THIS COURSE IS FOR STUDENTS USING THE FASTFORWARD DISCOUNT A SECOND TIME
Introduction to Hot Mix Asphalt placement, compaction, and joints. Intended audience is field personnel that have an impact on quality of asphalt mix placement. Class is suggested for Roller Operators, Paver Operators, Crew Foremen, Superintendents, Density Technicians, Construction Inspectors, Senior Construction Inspectors, Consultant Construction Inspectors, Senior Consultant Construction Inspectors and Materials IA & QA personnel and Permit Inspectors. Exam required for certification. No proficiency required. Course is a prerequisite for Asphalt Field Level II and may be taken consecutively with the Asphalt Field Level II class.
This is an online course in Canvas. The test is an online VDOT Materials Certification Exam within Canvas. Testing will occur at VCCS community college testing centers or the test can be taken remotely with the Respondus lockdown browser. Technical requirements are listed in your Canvas course.

Please read:  Special Notice: Beginning in January 2027, VDOT is making an update to the Field I and II credential. These two credentials will be combined into one credential called Field Technician. Beginning in January 2027, any student who holds a Field Level I credential but not a Field Level II credential will need to take the combined Field Technician credential. If you are enrolling in Field Level I, you will need to take Field Level II in 2026 to avoid taking the new combined course. I am enrolling in this class as part of the New Economy Workforce Credential Grant Program (WCG). As a condition to receiving a grant, I agree to the following terms and conditions as specified on this site: WCG Release Form.
