Students entering the Welding Level 1 class do not need prior industry experience. Students also do not need to be currently working in the field to start this program.

This Welding Level 1 course serves as the first level of training in the Welding craft and will cover the following content: Welding Safety, Oxyfuel Cutting, Introduction to Plasma Arc Cutting, Air-Carbon Arc Cutting and Gouging, Base Metal Preparation, Weld Quality, SMAW - Equipment and Setup, SMAW Electrodes, SMAW - Beads and Fillet Welds, Joint Fit-Up and Alignment, SMAW - Groove Welds with Backing - Open-Root Groove Welds - Plate.

The classroom meets at 403 Willis Street in downtown Fredericksburg. It is located across the street from The Oberle Academy, 401 Willis Street. Parking is available outside the chain link fence or across the street in The Oberle Academy parking lot.

Textbook is included for the course. Students are required to have a welding helmet, leather gloves, steel-toe boots, and long-sleeved attire for the class.

Prerequisite REQUIRED for class: Core Craft Skills
