Machining Level 1: CNC Milling Programming, Setup & Operations is approx. 16 hours per week for six weeks. The CNC Milling Programming, Setup & Operations course teaches the programming, setup and operations of Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Milling Machines. Skills learned about Good Machining Practices of Milling from the prerequisite courses will apply to operation of CNC Milling Machines. Axis Orientation and Blueprint Understanding are reinforced. Machine Coding is learned through multiple exercises with writing typical machine code taught in order for students to understand programs that are being set up and operated. Students learn Typical G-code Use and Conversational Machine Commands. The student learns by using accepted practices to set work coordinates tool length compensation, radius compensation, and tool wear offsets. The final project is to write a program, set up and make a project part that complies with the engineering drawing without direct assistance, and then culminate the requirements of NIMS credentialing by passing a knowledge test. Machining Level I: CNC Milling Programming Setup & Operations credential is earned.
