A Behavioral Health Technician program prepares students to support individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in clinical and community settings. Students learn essential skills such as patient observation, therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and documentation, while gaining an understanding of psychological disorders and treatment approaches. Graduates are equipped to work as part of a healthcare team, assisting professionals in delivering compassionate, client-centered care.
Upon successful completion, students can register as a Behavioral Health Technician-Assistant with the Virginia Board of Counseling. Students who have an Associate's degree can register as a Behavioral Health Technician.
