The radiology health and safety hybrid course will provide hands on skills and course content in digital radiography. Students will be familiar with film holding devices, radiation reduction techniques, placement of sensors, taking radiographs and aseptic procedures. Course content includes x-ray production, radiation biology, radiation safety and hygiene, and dental x-ray radiation. Students will take radiographs on manikins and successfully complete one Full Mouth Series and one Panoramic radiograph. This course is offered with two components, 15 hours of online content and a 6-hour clinical component both of which need to be passed with a 75%. Students will have 4 weeks to complete 15 hours of online material and successfully complete the final exam in a Germanna Community College testing proctored environment. All online assignments must be completed one week prior before registering for the clinical component. Upon successful completion of the online content, students will then contact Workforce to enroll in the clinical component. The clinical component is held at the Lloyd F. This course meets the requirements of the Virginia State Board of Dentistry for certification of dental auxiliaries to use x-ray equipment or procedures with dental patients under the direct supervision of dentists licensed in Virginia.
