The Dental Radiology Health and Safety hybrid course will provide hands-on skills and course content in digital radiography. Students will be familiar with film holding devices, radiation reduction techniques, placement of sensors, and taking radiographs and aseptic procedures. Course content includes X-ray production, radiation biology, radiation safety and hygiene, and dental X-ray radiation. Students will take radiographs on manikins and successfully complete one Full Mouth Series and one Panoramic radiograph. This course is offered with two components: 16 hours of online content and an eight-hour clinical component, both of which need to be passed with a minimum of 75%. Students will have two weeks to complete 16 hours of online material and successfully complete the final exam in a Germanna Community College testing proctored environment. All online assignments must be completed prior to attending the lab day, scheduled for May 8, 2023. Materials included.
This course meets the requirements of the Virginia State Board of Dentistry for certification of dental auxiliaries to use X-ray equipment or procedures with dental patients under the direct supervision of dentists licensed in Virginia. This class requires a minimum enrollment of 2 students. If the enrollment is not reached, the student's registration will be moved to the next scheduled class.
