Industrial Machining: Turning Between Centers - NIMS - FF

This class is available for registration anytime between July 1 through June 1.
Students have 20 weeks to complete the program.

 

Skills mastered in prerequisite courses are applied to pro­gramming of CNC Turning Centers. This course will cover the turning operations of mild or low carbon steel. The student will learn the operation of the turning machine and its accessories. The student will learn how to produce a part matching the process plan and the part print specifications using the appropriate trade techniques and speeds and feeds. The parts will be graded on specified and have at least three diameters within =/- .002. One external UNC external thread, one UNF external thread, and turning required part end for end to complete. To include a three-jaw universal scroll chuck, or a four-jaw independent chuck. The student will learn how to make parts using the Combination set, micrometers, thread and pitch gauges, dial indicator, 6” rule, dial or electronic calipers, and surface finish comparison plates.

After passing the written and hands on performance-based test, student will receive the NIMS credential.

The prerequisites for this class are:  Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout and Measurement, Materials & Safety.
