This is a foundational and prerequisite course for all Dental Assistant II students. Offered online, this didactic course prepares students for DA II laboratory and clinical modules. It covers topics including the clinical significance of dental anatomy, histology, physiology, and occlusion; as well as patient assessment, examination and diagnosis, and treatment planning. An overview of composite and amalgam restorations, esthetic procedures, and a range of conservative and preventive dental practices are addressed. Textbooks required; access to high speed internet is also required since class is delivered via Canvas.
Prerequisite: Class is open to individuals holding a current Certificate in Dental Assisting (CDA) and is limited to individuals who have applied, and are accepted into, the DA II program. Some students may be exempted from this class. Please contact mmesimer@germanna.edu for more information.
