Students have 20 weeks to complete the program.
 

Machining Level 1: Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout is approximately 12 hours per week for six weeks. The course includes: Safety Procedures, Bench Work, Hand Tools, Precision Measuring Instruments, Drill Presses, Cut-off Saws, Engine Lathes, Manual Surface Grinders, and Milling Machines Introduction. Detailed instruction is provided in understanding Engineering Drawings, Orthographic Projection, Basic Symbols and Notation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Layout Techniques, Precision Measurement, Hand Tools, Band Saws, Feed and Speed Calculations, Drilling, Threading, Tapping, and Reaming Operations. Use and under­standing of the Machinist Handbook is continued, and Introduction to Manual Milling and Milling Cutting Tools is initiated. The student will produce parts that are submitted for evaluation and then be knowledge-tested online by a separate proctor to earn their second NIMS Credential.

Students may start this course any time after completing Machining Level 1: Measurement, Materials & Safety.
