This hybrid course provides basic proficiency in medical billing and coding. Content areas include introduction to health insurance plans, hospital services, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS), claims processing, patient accounting, health care provider contracting, and more. You also gain hands-on skills using e-health management software. This intensive hybrid course has a significant portion delivered online via Blackboard. Face to face session schedule will be provided by the instructor. To be successful in this class students must be familiar with computer usage, have access to high speed internet to use the software and complete course assignments, and must have basic knowledge of medical terminology (covered in MOA, Part 1). Students will be prepared for the Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification exam through the National Health Career Association (NHA). Cost of the exam is included.
