This hybrid course provides basic proficiency in medical billing and coding. Content areas include introduction to health insurance plans, hospital services, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems (HCPCS), claims processing, patient accounting, health care provider contracting, and more. You also gain hands-on skills using e-health management software. This intensive hybrid course has a significant portion delivered online via Blackboard. Students will be informed of the online class dates on the first day of class. To be successful in this class students must be familiar with computer usage, have access to high speed internet to use the software and complete course assignments, and must have basic knowledge of medical terminology (covered in MOA, Part 1). Students will be prepared for the Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). NHA exam voucher and study guide are included with tuition. Exam voucher must be used within one year from class completion.
