Do you have a story to tell? What kind of story - Business? Research? A new project proposal? Who is the recipient of that story? Explain or report actions taken? Do you need to either establish or enhance a current communication effort to better influence or inform a specific audience? This class introduces the student to basic communication planning and engagement considerations; discusses attributes of shaping an effective outreach and engagement program; reviews the distinctions between the target audience, stakeholders, influencers, advocates and antagonists and ideas on how to approach and engage each group; and discusses proactive versus reactive communication processes. This class provides the student or organization with basic resources and skills that can be quickly applied to enable better understanding on the strategic environment and communication principles. Students are asked to come to the class prepared to discuss an issue that they are currently facing, or have faces in the past, that could be enhanced through improved communication planning skills.
