Machining Level 1: Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout
is approx. 12 hours per week for six weeks.

- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Layout techniques
- Precision measurement
- Hand tools
- Band saws
- Feed and speed calculations
- Drilling, threading, tapping, and reaming operations
Use and understanding of the Machinist Handbook is continued, and introduction to manual milling and milling cutting tools is initiated.
The student will produce parts that are submitted for evaluation and then knowledge tested online by a separate proctor to earn their second NIMS (National Institute of Metalworking Skills) Credential--Jobs Planning, Benchwork & Layout.
The schedule is Monday - Friday in the machinist shop behind the Carver Center from 8:30am through 5:00pm.
