The course includes safety considerations, precision measuring instruments, details of Manual Milling Machine features, set up of Manual Milling Machines. Accepted Milling practices are learned, including milling tool selection and use, calculation of surface speed, feed rate and part orientation and work holding requirements. Detailed instruction is provided in understanding details typically found on engineering drawings of milled components.
Orthographic projection, basic symbols and notation, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing are covered. Use of calipers and micrometers is reinforced. Drilling, threading, tapping, and reaming skills are utilized. Use and understanding of the Machinist Handbook is continued.
