Machining Level 1: CNC Mill Operations is approx. 16 hours per week for six weeks.
Enrollment is on-going and students may enroll at any time after completing Measurement, Materials, and Safety and Job Planning, Benchwork, and Layout.
The CNC Mill Operations course teaches the Setup and Operation of Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Milling Machines.
Skills learned about Good Machining Practices of Milling in prerequisite courses are applied to operation of CNC Milling Machines.
Axis Orientation and blueprint understanding is reinforced.
Machine code is learned, writing of typical machine code use taught in order for student to understand programs that are being setup and operated. Students learn typical G-code use and Conversational machine commands.
The student learns to set Work Coordinates, Toll Length Compensation, Radius Compensation, and Tool Wear Offsets, using accepted practices.
The student will setup and operate multiple programs to demonstrate skills and then culminate the requirements of NIMS credentialing by passing a knowledge test.
Machining Level 1: CNC Mill Operations credential is earned.
The schedule is Monday - Friday in the machinist shop behind the Carver Center from 8:30am through 5:00pm.
